Hiya b~f~l...I guess this place has all the qualities of a serene place as it's been as quiet as a tomb for some time now.

- an environment where I feel comfortable and uninhibitted. If there are people around, they need to be people that I feel comfortable around and not overwhelming in number.

- Absence of direct light: I have very sensitive eyes and being in direct sunlight bothers me. Often times I can be found squinting on sunny days. The world doesn't seem very serene through squinted eyelids or glaring rays of sunlight. A spot under a canopy of trees or in a forest is a great place on a sunny day. Overcast and rainy days have always been my favored conditions.

- Nature, breezes, color, cool temperatures.

- Something to climb

- Something to solve or accomplish. Sitting around without a mission makes me feel useless.

- long hugs

- noise

- warm beverages

My absolute number one favorite serene place is the beach... all of one's senses are aroused at the edge of the ocean...

The crunchy touch of sand under your feet... The cool and refreshingly scented salt water waves wisking your body away, as the hot sun beats down upon your head... The gorgeous sights to be seen at the beach are too numerous to mention (well the horizon cannot be left out!)... The sound of the ocean waves crashing on the shore as seagulls cackle away... And last but not least: the taste of your lover's sweet and tender kisses as the two of you enjoy a roaring bonfire and a cuddle under the knowing and glorious hovering moon...

Yes, it is the beach that defines serenity for me :D

I agree with migrant-picker. The beach is wonderful but water anywhere offers massive comfort and serenity; almost as much as firelight.

But the ultimate for me is snuggling under a cozy down comforter, sweet book of poetry in hand and winging to another existence.

The smell of a line dried duvet and the sound of his heart beating while we lay under it.

The reassuring sound of my beloveds voice.

Sharing coffee and talking about nothing.

Thick fog.

A really thick fog that makes you forget there's a world around you, while swimming or walking around with a giddy gait. Last time was 6 years ago. :(
